This 15-hour course prepares unit leaders to operate on flat and moving water. Leaders completing Sessions I, II, and IV receive a patch and numbered card.
A trained adult with a current registration card must accompany units on all water outings for the unit to earn High Adventure Awards.
All Water Trek specific classes, known collectively as "Session IV", are held at the Fiesta Island Youth Aquatic Center on Mission Bay.
Water Trek Session IV weeknight session covers:
- Introduction to Canoeing
- Canoeing Safety
- Planning a Water Trek
- Rules and Procedures for use on the river.
Water Trek Session IV weekend sessions cover:
- Equipment-PFDs
- parts of the paddle and canoe
- Canoe Handling:
- basic canoeing strokes
- solo and tandem practice - Canoe rescue
RE-TRAINING:
Leaders must renew their Water Trek card every four years by repeating the first two meetings of Session IV.
